Consultation on cleaning qualification review commences

Careerforce seeks stakeholders to provide feedback on cleaning qualifications.

Careerforce, the industry training organisation for the cleaning industry, is encouraging stakeholders to provide feedback on the cleaning qualifications as part of the New Zealand Qualification Authority’s (NZQA) requirement for the regular review of all qualifications.

The qualifications that are part of the cleaning review include New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning (Level 2) with optional endorsement in Health Care Facilities Cleaning and New Zealand Certificate in Cleaning (Level 3) with optional strands in Specialist Cleaning and Supervision.

Rod Bentham, general manager learning solutions at Careerforce said the review will ensure that cleaning qualifications continue to reflect emerging trends.

“The aim is to have cleaners with up to date knowledge and skills through qualifications that are fit-for-purpose,” Bentham said.

In 2018, there were 174 graduates of the Cleaning Level 2 qualification and 214 graduates of the Cleaning Level 3 qualification.

“Training cleaners is now increasingly being seen as an investment, and as an important staff retention tool. By ensuring that qualifications continue to meet industry requirements, we are making sure that such training investment is well spent,” Bentham said.

The review follows the release of Careerforce’s 2018 annual report earlier this month.

Careerforce CEO Jane Wenman  said 2018 was another very successful year for the industry training organisation, noting standard training measure (STM) growth of 11 per cent, following on from 24 per cent growth over 2017.

Other key highlights from the annual report included;

  • Growth in worksites supported up 23 per cent to 1782, and up 80 per cent from 2014
  • Learners grew to 19,125, up 5 per cent on 2017, and up 37 per cent on 2014
  • Total current apprenticeships up 85 per cent to 2062
  • Revenue growth of 14 per cent to $22.9 million for 2018

Online consultation for the review is open from 20 June to 8 July 2019.
